Interview with Philippe Poirier

Rigor and reliability for complex projects at DAWCO

Interview with Yasmine Hebiche, Communications and Marketing Director

Yasmine : Hi Philippe, thanks for taking the time to chat with me today! First, can you tell me a little about your role at DAWCO?

Philippe : Of course, Yasmine! I'm superintendent on the Varennes RCV project, which means I manage the worksite and the team. My role is to make sure that everything runs smoothly, that the quality of the work is perfect and that everyone stays safe. I also make sure that budgets and deadlines are respected.

Yasmine : It must be a role with a lot of responsibility. How did you join DAWCO?

Philippe : Yes, it's a position where you have to be on all fronts! I joined DAWCO thanks to my father, Yvan Poirier, formerly Project Manager at DCM Group. He used to work at DAWCO, and somewhat guided me to towards DAWCO. It was a great opportunity for me.

Philippe et sa famille

Yasmine : It's great to be able to follow in your father's footsteps! DAWCO is basically a family run-business at its core, that must make your journey even more meaningful! What do you enjoy most about what you do?

Philippe : Absolutely, the fact that DAWCO is a family business adds a special dimension to my work. There's a real sense of belonging. I'm really passionate about large industrial projects. I started as an electrician in 2013 on a mining project in Saskatchewan, and that's where I discovered my interest in managing complex projects. There's something very satisfying about seeing a team's hard work come to fruition, especially after months of hard work.

Yasmine : I can imagine the pride you must feel when a project is successfully completed! But I imagine it's not always easy. What are the biggest challenges you face in your role?

Philippe : Oh, you're right! The biggest challenge is keeping teams motivated and happy. Sometimes we have to deal with technical or personal problems, and that's not always easy. But that's also what makes the job rewarding: finding solutions and supporting your team.

Yasmine : It must be quite a challenge, but you seem very committed to your role. How would you describe the work culture at DAWCO?

Philippe : It's a culture based on rigor, but also on family spirit. We work hard, but there's a real sense of support among colleagues. That's what makes DAWCO special to me.

Yasmine : It's great to see that team spirit is so important. And tell me, have you taken the “Announce your colors” training course? If so, what are your colors?

Philippe : Yes, I followed it. My colors are red and blue. That's pretty representative of my personality, I think!

Yasmine : Interestingly, these colors certainly reflect your rigorous side and your ability to manage teams! Now, outside work, what are your hobbies?

Philippe : My main hobby is snowmobiling in winter and camping in summer.

Yasmine : Sounds like a great way to unwind after a busy week. Finally, if you had to choose one word to describe your experience at DAWCO, which would it be and why?

Philippe : Reliability. DAWCO is a company you can count on, and I'm proud to work for a company that takes care of its team. That's important to me.

Yasmine : Reliability is a fine word that sums up your commitment and that of DAWCO. Thank you very much for this interview, Philippe! It was a pleasure to learn more about you and your career.

Philippe : Thank you, Yasmine! It was a pleasure to share my experience.
